Rice is the Philippines' all-day basic food, even for breakfast making it difficult to find fresh bread right at the next street corner. But don't fret because there are actually several bakery chains that provide Metro Manila with delicious whole grain breads, baguettes, and other baked goods.
The French Baker
The French Baker sells a wide range of French-style and international pastries in more than 30 stores, most of them located in SM Malls and big supermarkets in Metro Manila. The wide selection includes walnut, wheat and sourdough bread, whole-wheat baguettes, pretzels, Danishes, different kinds of buns, Philippine baked specialties, and more. Lartizan / Säntis
Much of The French Baker's bread is slightly adapted to the Philippine palate, meaning a bit sweeter and softer than the originals. To provide original European bread as well, The French Baker's owner founded Lartizan, which in our opinion produces some of the best breads in town. The bakery distributes rustic baguettes as well as hearty whole wheat and sourdough breads in several Säntis Delicatessen branches, for example in Yakal Street. At Säntis you also get the 'Dark Multigrain Bread', topped with sunflower seeds and other grains – highly recommended!

Café France sells baguettes, croissants and a selection of sweet pastries. As the name indicates, though, it is more of a café and bistro than bakery. They serve, cater and deliver sandwiches, pasta, canapés and other Western specialties. It is the perfect place for a quick breakfast before work, for lunch break or for an afternoon kaffeeklatsch. The café has nearly 30 branches in and around Metro Manila, in malls, at NAIA Airport, in RCBC, and even in some schools and hospitals.

Tous les Jours
Tous les Jours is a French-Asian Bakery, originally from South Korea. They are best known for their sweet bread and buns, but offer some hearty baguette as well. Eight Tous les Jours stores can be found in the Megacity, mostly in the major malls.

Wagner German Bakery
Freshly baked bread the likes of brötchen, pretzels, and other baked goods are sold at Wagner German Bakery. The German establishment also serves hearty dishes for breakfast and lunch and if you feel like having coffee or Bavarian draft beer, these are available as well. Wagner German Bakery is open from 7 am onwards from Mondays through Saturdays.

Pan de Manila
Last not least, Pan de Manila bakes the traditional pandesal, the most popular Philippine bread, in old-style brick ovens. Pandesal comes as very soft, sweet and salty buns, coated with bread crumbs. At Pan de Manila you will also find several home-made spreads that go perfectly with pandesal, such as peanut butter, mango jam, and herb cream cheese.
