Metro Manila · Jupiter, Burgos, Kalayaan (Makati)
This HotSpot is conveniently located in the North-East of Makati and as such makes it a prime destination for after-work hours. No matter if you still have to wait for the traffic to decrease before heading home, looking for an informal meeting place or just relax or party after a contract has been signed: this HotSpot is what you need. Jupiter, Burgos, Kalayaan offers all you need for the above-mentioned and more. You want to relax first? Try a quick massage. Heading home later? Get some ice-cold beer while singing your heart out at the local karaoke bar. It's time for chill-out? Go to one of the Megacitizens' favorite hangout places in Metro Manila.
While you can generally find everything everywhere in this HotSpot, let me help you out with some basic guidelines:
- No matter if Spanish or Vegetarian, Jupiter Street features those restaurants and a lot more. If you look for a dinner place after work, that might be your go-to street. You will also find some very good karaoke places in Jupiter Street. The whole street will come to life when the sun sets slowly in the evening. On which day of the week you ask me? Every day is Jupiter day.
- Done with massage, dinner and singing? Then, it's time to move to Kalayaan. Kalayaan is much quieter than Jupiter but offers you some nice hangout places in cozy atmosphere. Located between Bel-Air and Rockwell, you will most likely bump into some other Megacitizens relaxing in this HotSpot. Strike up a conversation and enjoy the atmosphere!
- Burgos is mostly referred to as the 'Redlight District' of Makati. It is undeniable that 'Midget Boxing' or skimpy-dressed women inviting you into their 'VIP Lounge' mark Burgos as such. However, if that would be all, I would not have mentioned it. Burgos has some nice hidden treasures. There would be the bar which serves all kinds of different beers from all over the world or the famous biker-sports-bar
A Typical Day in the Jupiter, Burgos, Kalayaan HotSpot:
A typical day in the HotSpot starts directly after work. When I need to wind-down from work, I usually go to one of those small massage parlors in Jupiter. Only 15 minutes of back or foot massage bring me back to life and allow me to rejoin my colleagues for a nice dinner treat. Luckily, they chose the vegetarian restaurant in Jupiter. Not matter where I got my massage, it won't be more than 10 minutes walk to the destination. While sharing stories from work and home, my colleagues and me take our time to enjoy every bite before swallowing it done with a sip of good wine.
Tomorrow is Saturday, so we decide to spent the whole night out. Because it is still early after dinner, we decide to go to a cozier location and have some drinks. My friend heard of a bar with a 6-8pm happy hour promotion in Kalayaan. This is the location where our cab driver will drop us off. Although a walk from our restaurant in Jupiter to the bar in Kalayaan would have been good for the digestive system, we decide to bail on the 15 minute walk.
After the happy hour is over, we agree to play some rounds of billiard – the loser pays. It is not that far, but we decide for the 2 minutes taxi ride – also to keep our heated discussion on the new company smoking policy going. As time flies by we are approaching the 'point of no return' of every night out: going home or not. Tomorrow is no work and the company is good, so we decide to embrace Live Music. Live music in the Philippines is a MUST and some of the best can be found just around the corner in Jupiter. To get some fresh air, we decide to walk the 10 minutes from our bar. The rest of the night is spent by listening to great live music. The ambiance is perfect and this evening has been a blast.
The night ends with the Security Guard in front of the par conveniently hailing us a cab which finally brings us home.
