The Mandarin Oriental Manila was one of the first luxury hotels in the Central Business District when it opened in September 1976. For more than 40 years, the hotel hosted countless international stars, diplomats, businessmen and Manila's creme de la creme within its storied walls. Each year, the Metro's elite and members of the press awaited its popular Chinese New Year countdown led by its resident geomancer Joseph Chau. A new Mandarin Hotel is set to open in Makati, just across its former location, in 2020.
